To be granted a student (Subclass 570–576) visa, you must meet key requirements. These include a genuine temporary entrant requirement, your financial capacity, English language proficiency, likely compliance with the conditions of your visa and any other matters considered relevant to assessing your application.  A student visa application will be assessed against one of the following:

  • one of five assessment levels for each visa subclass
  • the streamlined visa processing requirements if you are an eligible student.

Assessment levels are prescribed according to the passport you hold and the education sector of your course. Assessment Level 5 has the most stringent requirements.  See: www.immi.gov.au/students/

To be eligible for streamlined visa processing, you must provide evidence of your confirmation of enrolment for an eligible course from a participating university at the time that you lodge your application. Eligible courses include Bachelor, Masters and Doctoral degrees.  See: www.immi.gov.au/students/

To be granted a student visa, you must also satisfy the general requirements that are applicable to all student visa applicants.  General requirements include you being of good character and sound health, and having acceptable health insurance and no outstanding debts to the Commonwealth of Australia.

The ISA Group do not advise students on which course or study they should undertake for permanent residency purposes. The skilled occupations list is extremely dynamic and is updated by the Australian Government consistently.  For any students deciding what to study our advice is to choose a course that interests you and will offer you a successful career pathway.

ISA Group do not have any affiliation with any educational institution, but we can pass on the following URL’s for you to consider TAFE and AICT as options for your study.

Graduates

Depending on the qualification obtained and the demand for the occupation studied, overseas students may have the option to apply for an independent skilled visa.

Students may be eligible for a Skilled Graduate (temporary) visa that will allow them to remain in Australia for up to 18 months to gain skilled work experience or to improve their English language skills. Holders of this visa can apply for permanent residence at any time once they are able to meet the eligibility requirements of the general skilled migration program.
