ISA Group supports call for more migration
A leading Australian immigration and international recruitment company has backed recent comments by the Premier of Western Australia that Australia could face severe shortages if a number of large projects on the drawing board come to fruition. The Premier went on to say that there may be a need to relax migration laws to enable the skilled workers that will be needed to gain access to the country.
ISA Group Director and head of recruitment, Brett Merrey, agrees with the Premier’s prediction.
“Although the demand for Australian workers, particularly in the resources sector has dropped away this year, there is every chance that companies will be clambering to source overseas skilled workers at short notice in the next year or two,” said Brett.
“Recent changes introduced by the Australian Department of Immigration have meant there are now more measures in place to be able to recruit people with certain trades from selected countries, which makes it tougher for companies to recruit at short notice. Early workforce planning will be essential to ensure projects can access the workers they need.”
The Western Australian Chamber of Minerals and Energy (CME) have also issued a statement that supports the Premier’s predictions.
According to the CME, a further 26,000 workers will be required by 2013 as several multi-billion projects begin in the State’s north.
